Data Engineer

Halllmark UK are building a new Data & Analytics Centre of Excellence and we need you, our first Data Engineer, to be a key foundational member of that team.  We are transforming our analytics capabilities and you will play a vital role in this by owning the development of a new Data & Analytics data warehouse to bring value to the business at pace. Your Responsibilities

  • Build ETL/ELT pipelines to automate data flows from the core operational data warehouse and multiple other sources
  • Develop data models in a ‘single source of truth’ ready for visualisation in the BI tool
  • Support the BI/Reporting Manager and Data Analysts who will be building the front end visualisations, creating dashboards and running analytics projects on top of your data models
  • You will enable the automation of current Excel manual reporting processes
  • You will partner closely with the IT Team, who are our most important partner and the supplier of the majority of our data and infrastructure, to ensure that all development is carried out within guidelines, data lineage is clearly documented and code is tested
  • You will also be the key point of contact for documenting requirements when development is required further upstream in the core operational data warehouse to support the analytical data flows


​​​​​​​Your Accountabilities

  • New ETL pipelines and data models delivered at pace in an iterative approach, working closely with the business users
  • Clean, well-documented code and pipelines, and an up to date glossary of business metrics
  • Ensuring the reliability of the automated pipelines and the availability and scalability of the data models in the Data & Analytics data warehouse
  • Advising the Data & Analytics team on best practice with regards effective pipelines and data models
  • Accountable for enabling the analytics team to deliver our significant, but achievable, EBIT improvement targets through providing actionable insight to the Exec decision makers at pace


To be successful you will need:

  • Essential - A strong background in data engineering, including building ETL pipelines from multiple data sources and managing data modelling and storage for analytics. This is a technical role and you’ll be expected to demonstrate at interview that you have this technical experience
  • Essential - Strong proficiency and experience with Microsoft SQL Server stack (SSIS, SSRS etc.) or similar
  • Highly desirable - Advanced SQL skills essential and experience in programming languages for data analytics (e.g. Python)
  • Essential - Experience in building analytics data warehouse solutions to support modern BI tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI)
  • Essential - Strong communication skills – the ability to work as the technical expert in an analytics team outside of the core IT Team – listening, sharing ideas and understanding each other’s points of view
  • Essential - Adaptability and a willingness to develop flexible solutions to provide answers for the business at speed
  • Highly desirable – Curiosity and a desire to leverage data to solve business problems
  • Essential – The ability to work as a team; helping your colleagues and bringing enthusiasm to the role


Based at our Dawson Lane site in Bradford, close to key motorway links you’ll be able to take advantage of:

  • A 9 – 12 month fixed term contract, with the possibility of extension or a permanent role
  • Hybrid remote working – we are set up to work remotely and in the office.  This role will require at least one day per week in our offices at Dawson Lane, Bradford, and candidates should be based within a reasonable distance to make this possible.
